Jon W. Norris - Experienced Criminal Defense Attorney, Washington, DC
As a highly decorated criminal defense attorney, Jon Norris has represented clients in every type of case prosecutors can dish out. From DUIs and OWIs, to terrorism charges out of Guantanamo Bay, Mr. Norris is well versed in the full range of criminal matters.
Mr. Norris’ entire career has been dedicated to criminal defense work. Before he became a lawyer, Mr. Norris spent six years as an investigator for the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia (PDS). After earning his JD from the University of Maryland, Mr. Norris spent a decade at PDS trying juvenile matters, homicides, assaults, and drug/firearm related offenses. For his outstanding work and dedication, Mr. Norris was promoted to Deputy Trial Chief, Lead Attorney for Homicide, and Acting Chief of Investigations. Each of these positions allowed him to not only try his own cases, but to train and mentor generations of young lawyers and investigators.
In 2000, Mr. Norris left PDS to found his own private practice: The Law Offices of Jon W. Norris. When Marc Rochon and Michele Roberts transitioned out of criminal defense work, they passed the baton (and their clients) to Mr. Norris. Bernard S. Grimm did the same when he transferred to a different practice. Such endorsements by distinguished and celebrated defense attorneys quickly cemented Mr. Norris status as one of the top trial lawyers in the DMV area.
Today, attorneys from across the country refer Federal, D.C., and Maryland cases to Mr. Norris on a regular basis. With more than twenty-nine years of criminal defense experience in the Criminal Courts in DC and Maryland, Mr. Norris has tried hundreds of cases from indictment to verdict. Mr. Norris is a zealous advocate who has handled everything from homicide and sex offenses, to drug cases and college disciplinary matters. When your liberty and future are at stake, experience matters. Trust your case to a lawyer who knows the issues, who is ready to fight prosecutors on every point, and who will give his all to secure a Not Guilty.

Mr. Norris and his cases are recognizable in George Pelecanos’ riveting Spero Lucas series of DC crime novels. Involving criminal defense attorney Tom Petersen. “They were in a second-story office with a bank of windows overlooking D Street at 5 th , in a corner row house close to the federal courts. Tom Petersen, big and blond, sat behind his desk, wearing an untucked paisley shirt, jeans, boots…, his blond hair shaggy around his face, looking like an aged Brian Jones.”
