Jon W. Norris - Experienced Criminal Defense Attorney, Washington, DC

In 2007, he received the Frederick Douglas Human Rights Award from the Southern Center for Human Rights for his work as local counsel for the Guantanamo Bay Detainees.

Mr. Norris earned his law degree from the University of Maryland in 1990. Prior to taking the bar, he spent six years as a Criminal Defense Investigator, working with some of the Best Criminal Defense Attorneys in the District of Columbia. At The Public Defender Service for The District of Columbia for a decade, Mr. Norris held the positions of  Deputy Trial Chief, Lead Attorney for Homicide and Acting Chief of Investigations. In those positions he not only handled and tried his own cases, he supervised and trained generations of younger lawyers and investigators, how to handle serious Felonies and Homicides.   Mr. Norris left PDS and founded The Law Offices of Jon W. Norris in the year 2000. In 2001, distinguished Washington Trial Attorneys, Mark Rochon and Michele Roberts of the law firm Rochon & Roberts, turned over their criminal defense cases and clients to Mr. Norris when they transitioned into a different law practice. In 2007, Bernard S. Grimm also entrusted his criminal defense cases and clients to Mr. Norris when he transitioned into a different practice. Attorneys from across the country refer Federal, D.C., and Maryland cases to Mr. Norris on a regular basis. Mr. Norris is in demand for lectures and training seminars at the various Law Schools, Clinical Programs and Bar Associations in Washington, D.C. and he has traveled and taught at The Southern Center for Human Rights, The Georgia Public Defender Standards Council, and Gideon's Promise (formerly The Southern Public Defender Training Center).

With more than twenty-nine years of Criminal Defense Experience in the Criminal Courts in Washington, DC and Maryland, Mr. Norris has tried hundreds of criminal jury cases to verdict, and zealously defended all types of criminal cases from Homicides to Misdemeanors, to Sex Offenses and Federal Conspiracies.
